The Role

Are you ready to inspire and lead? At Co-op Swinton, we are seeking a dynamic Second in Department for Computer Science, Creative Media & Enterprise to guide curriculum, foster collaboration, and elevate student outcomes! As part of Co-op Academies Trust, you will have the opportunity to innovate, inspire, and raise achievement levels across the school while working within a supportive leadership team.

Our aim is to ensure that our students are given every opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their background. With this in mind, we are looking to appoint a second in department who shares our vision for a learning environment and curriculum that is ambitious as well as supportive and nurturing.  As well as academic success, we focus on and take great pride in our students' behaviour. We aim for high achievement in an environment which is based on rewards, not sanctions. Working closely with our teaching body, our caring and experienced pastoral team are always on hand to help and support our students through their secondary school journey  You will do this whilst capturing the spirit of our vision and values and whilst role-modelling exceptional professional behaviours.

Why us?

Our academy provides a place for pupils aged 11-16. We are easily commutable from all areas of the North West with Swinton train station less than a 5 minute walk. We have a dedicated team of staff who build and share positive relationships and a caring culture with our wonderful students. This was highlighted in our recent Ofsted inspection (June 2024), where we were graded ‘Good’ in all areas.

All our values are based upon the values of the Co-op Group, which will inform our behaviours.

Self-help: We do not expect to be spoon fed – we will try to do things for ourselves in the right way and at the right time.

Self-responsibility: Everyone should act in a responsible way around the academy site and in the local community. We take responsibility for our own learning; we want to become independent learners.

Equality: We are proud to be part of a very multicultural academy, with students from all over the world; it is important that we treat each other with respect and accept that others may be different from ourselves. We should all of us have equal chances to succeed.

Equity: We want to look for the best in each other. Rewarding others fairly to encourage all types of achievement.

Democracy: We will contribute our ideas to make the academy a success.

Solidarity: We can achieve more by working together, rather than as individuals.

Being part of the Co-operative Group, we are both guided and driven by the Co-op values which are embedded in everything that we do within our Academy - We strive to demonstrate the following ethical values in everything we do - they are our ‘Ways of Being’:
